(Photo above is a view of the stone campanile from the Manor).
Hidden off a winding country road is this gracious, private,
historically significant Estate. The local area is known for its gently rolling hills, beautiful
scenery, and protected open lands.
This Estate is originally part of a large land
grant from William Penn to George Ashbridge, and has been owned by some of the Philadelphia region's most prominent and affluent families,
including the Ashbridges, the Pratts, the Roberts, and A. Sydney Logan --
a direct descendant of James Logan, who was one of the signers of the
Declaration of Independence.
The main portion of the Manor is believed to date to 1720,
with a substantial expenasion by Sydney Logan in the late
1800's ... the Manor is a large, beautiful, graceful residence ... those who love fine homes will appreciate its
magnificent rooms, its historic charm and character, and of course,
its exceptionally peaceful and private setting.
The Manor house is filled with irreplaceable original architectural
elements, including 11' high ceilings, plaster walls, deep windowsills,
random width pine floors, hand-carved millwork and mouldings,
extensive chestnut wainscot, extremely rare antique silk wallcoverings, imported
19th century Italian marble, antique Waterford crystal, sterling
silver chandeliers, 10 fireplaces with original hearthstones and hand-carved mantels ...
much, much more.
The Estate has long been known for a magnificent 65' tall
fieldstone campanile, which was constructed by Logan in 1922, and which he dedicated
to world peace following World War I.
The campanile includes an extremely
rare English Perigault clockworks, believed to date to 1795. The
clockworks, and accompanying large bronze bell (which still tolls the hours), are
both in excellent working order and still tell the correct time of
day. They have been regularly maintained by a professional antiquarian.
The Estate also includes a charming two-story, 4-stall fieldstone
barn and paddock area, a large wooden cottage and garage building ... and
acres of beautiful, private grounds. There are towering shade
trees, original specimen plantings, sprawling manicured lawns, and a long gated private
drive.
A former "Chester County Day" Tour Home, this Estate
is ideal as a primary residence or as a substantial weekend country
home.
For equestrians, ride-out onto the vast bridle trail network which traverses the foxhunt country of the Radnor Hunt is adjacent to the Estate.
For those who seek the enduring character of
a significant historic home, and who seek to acquire a landmark historic estate, the 'Sydney Logan Estate' is an absolute must-see.
